Music Video Evaluation.

My music video is to the song ‘This Month, Day 10’ by the band CSS. CSS are a South American band who has been put into the music genres of ‘World and folk’, Punk, Electro, Rock and Indie. My music video does have the same conventions as the other CSS videos and bands like them such as Hot Chip and New young pony club. All of these videos usually have a quirky storyline, a lot of reverse shots, dancing to the camera, miming to the camera and the band just generally being aware of the camera. Although I was unaware of all those conventions at the time I made my video, my video does contain all of the typical CSS elements. I would say my video was most like CSS’s video to ‘Alala’. This contains some form of violence (a girl fight) and in mine also (a voodoo doll theme). It also has the reverse effects, close ups of the artist miming and the lead singer dancing to the camera.
The response of the audience was positive – they all seemed to enjoy it and found the effects to be the best part of the video. They all seemed aware that it had the punk/indie music vibe to it. I think the audience liked it because it was aimed at the teenage audience, and the video had a modern feel to it.
Overall, I feel my video went very well to the music and lyrics. I think what worked best with my video was the effects, the quirky storyline (that teenagers can relate to with the ‘Love sucks’ theme) and the likeness of the characters with the witty acting.
